More Fires

More fires yesterday. They evacuated Robert Lee -- Dad couldn't get through to his house there and is back in Snyder.

The Fires

I don't know if you've all heard or not, but God's hand of protection was definitely on Milton and many of our friends this weekend. Several fires were raging in Scurry County. One burned much of our Park Pasture -- we lost our fence along 84 and on up the caliche road towards dad's place. But Milton, the house and the cows are okay. A separate fire burned around the Riggan's house, much of the golf course at the college, and very near Monte & Linda West's. That same fire burned around Elois Pruitt's house. Again, everyone is okay and none of them lost their homes.

Praise God!!!

Sometimes they just break your heart...

The dandelions are out in full force up at Abbie's school -- so fluffy. Kait and I were just up there, and she picked one. "You're supposed to make a wish and then blow the fluff away," I told her.

And in the quietest little voice that I just barely heard, she whispered, "I wish my Granny would come back alive."

I do, too.

Team Tiara is Going Global!

Okay. Not quite. But we are going Coastal! (At least that's not Postal!)

Nichole just sent me an email and let me know she's setting up Team Tiara on the West Coast. They'll be doing San Diego this year. Too Cool!!

I'll let ya'll know more when I know more!!

A Good Challenge Never Hurts....

This has been the year of "challenges" around the Biggs house. First, Biggs challenged the girls to go without sugar for 30 days. They did it, and now they're on Round 2 and still doing great.

Then, yesterday, Biggs found another challenge online and sent it out to all his buddies. I'm not going into detail on that one, but let's just say I don't think it's entirely realistic -- and you really shouldn't believe everything you read on the Internet.

And then, last night I challenged our 3-Day team to do something really cool. When I issued the "challenge" last night, we had 22 team members signed up on our team, and we had raised a little over $7400. We're going to try to reach 25 team members and $10,000 by the end of the month. As of right now, we're at $8316. Whoo-Hoo!

I'll keep you posted!!!

Trainer Day!

Okay. Are you ready for this???

Today was "Trainer Day" and I'd lost....

Two Pounds!!!!

I know that may not sound like a lot, but look at it this way.... That's two pounds that I don't have to carry on the 500 or so miles I'll walk between now and the 3-Day!

Works for me!

(Oh, and she was glad to see my itty bitty bicep!)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Chocolate Day! Happy Everyone Loves You Day! Happy Hugs & Kisses Day!!!
Today you can do something for your heart!
Sign up for the 3-Day!
Did you know...
Moderate exercise, such as walking 30 minutes a day, can reduce your risks of dying of heart disease, even if you can't seem to lose weight or reduce your high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Studies published in the April, 2005 issue of Diabetes Care show the big benefits of physical activity for everyone.

Moderate Physical Activity Reduces Heart Deaths by 39%
People with type 2 diabetes who were moderately active reduced their risk of dying from heart disease by 39%. Those who were highly active reduced their risk by 48%. They reaped those benefits regardless of body mass index, blood pressure or cholesterol levels or whether or not the person smoked. Benefits were the same in both men and women. This study was conducted by researchers at the National Public Health Institute in Finland.

Moderate physical activity, according to the study, included any one of these types of physical activity:

4 hours or more a week of walking, cycling or light gardening, not including time spent commuting to or from work.
Walking or cycling for 30 minutes or more as part of the daily commute to work.
An active work day with much standing, walking, lifting, or other heavy manual labor. This would log 10,000 or more steps per day on a pedometer.
3 hours or more per week of vigorous physical activity such running, jogging, skiing or swimming during leisure time.

I Love Milestones!!

I love milestones. I love the little green signs that tell you just how far it is to the next town (restroom.) I love the sense of completion you get when you finish putting together a quilt square. I love the little things in life that tell you you're getting somewhere -- not just the signs that tell you a restroom is just 10 miles away, but the little steps that say, "Hey, you're going in the right direction. You're going to get there!"

Team Tiara hit two milestones today -- how cool is that? When Lisa and I walked two years ago, we raised a little over $6000 for breast cancer research. Today, when it's only February, and the 3-Day is still nine months away, we hit the $6000 mark -- and beyond.

And today, when it's only February, and we still have nine more months to sign up more team members, our 20th team member joined our team.

Wow.

We're headed in the right direction. We're going to get there. For Carrie, who had a very successful lumpectomy yesterday. For Kristine, who found out this week she has leukemia. For Lois, whose health lies in the balance of just how many germs her body can fight off without having a spleen to help keep her safe.

Keep praying!

Prayer Requests and Praises

First: Praise! Princess Addison is getting so big!!! She should be coming home from the hospital soon!! Isn't she precious!!! I think this girl was meant to wear a tiara!!!
Prayer Requests: I've mentioned this before, but there are two students at Abbie's school that have leukemia. Clayton is in Abbie's class. He had his last chemo treatment today, but word has it he will have to have a bone marrow transplant. Please pray for Clayton and his family. For the precious first graders in his class as they try to understand what's going on. Clayton has been out of school since Christmas, and it's starting to sink in with the kids that he's just been gone too long. And please pray for Mrs. Evans, Abbie's teacher, as she reaches out to her class, helping them understand. And at the same time tries to reach out to Clayton and his family. I think she's done an awesome job. Abbie's been telling us about the cards and videos they've made in class. But I can tell my sweet Abbie is really worried about her friend. Yesterday, we took a little bag of treats over and left it on Clayton's doorstep. Abbie made sure to draw dinosaurs and frogs all over the bag -- because that's what he likes. She also drew all these people that were representative of her classmates with a little "word bubble" thing that said, "whar's Clayton?" (That Texas accent even comes out in her spelling, doesn't it?)
Please pray also for little Elise. Elise is the kindergartner at Abbie's school that is at Children's right now. I just heard from her Mom that the cells for her bone marrow transplant will be delivered between 1 and 2 a.m. That makes her transplant day this Friday. This is Elise's third round of cancer and second bone marrow transplant. She is such a precious little girl -- just a little pixie, really. We all want this bone marrow transplant to take!!! You know, the slogan for the 3-Day is "Everyone Deserves a Lifetime." But that doesn't just apply to those who face the terror of breast cancer and what it does to their families. Elise deserves a lifetime. A lifetime to play dress-up and softball. A lifetime to go to school with her friends and to run around the track on "jog days." A lifetime to grow up and go to the prom and graduation and college and get married and have kids and a career and be a rocket scientist or a rodeo clown or whatever it is she wants to be. Please pray along with me that sweet Elise gets that lifetime. And Clayton, too. These children are precious.
Finally, please pray for all the women I'm walking in support of:
Sonja, as she follows the "non-traditional" path because the traditional ways of keeping cancer at bay don't seem to work for her.
Patty, who found out last week that she has breast cancer, and for her sister-in-law Sherry, a survivor, who is helping her walk the path.
Stephanie, the queen of the Talent, who's taking a month off of chemo to recharge.
Carrie, who has her lumpectomy scheduled for Feb. 12, and faces radiation after that.
Becky, who is headed into reconstruction soon.
Denise, as she recovers from her 15th surgery in three years.
Susan, of WhyMommy fame, as she recovers from her mastectomy.
I'm sure there are others that I just can't think of right now. This is just way too many as it is.
Thanks for joining me in prayer!!!
Biggs Hugs,
d.

Election Poll

Due to popular request, here is the link to the "Electoral Compass."

Hope it works!!!

If not, find someone with a Wall Street Journal membership....

Today is Your Birthday!!!!

Well, maybe not yours....
But it's Milton's!!!
Happy 70th Birthday, Paw-Paw!!!!
If you get a chance, please give him a call and wish him a great day!!!

McCain's my Man?????

Okay. So I took this poll online. It's one of those things where you answer 35 questions and it tells you who your views line up with.

Apparently, Rudy Gugliani is my man. But like with Miss America, when your candidate can no longer fill his roll, the runner-up will take his place.

McCain. Who knew????

I'm farthest from agreeing with Obama. And I would have thought that would have been Hillary.

Go figure....

Enough!!!

Hi all,
I'm sure you've all seen that email about Barack Obama that claims he's a Muslim, won't say the pledge, and all that jazz. My inbox has been flooded with it. Snopes.com (always a good place to look before forwarding a mass email) has had a post refuting it.

Anyway, this is an interesting article about how Obama's campaign has tackled the issue. Thought ya'll might like to read it:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0108/8109.html

He may not be your particular brand of Christian, but he isn't a radical muslim extremist, either.
Have a great week!!!
D'Lyn

Disclaimer: This post is in no way a reflection of my political views (if I have political views.) I just think it's interesting. I also think it's always a good idea to refrain from mass-forwarding of emails that are full of fallacies and geared at scaring people. Particularly if they're going to help get Hillary Clinton elected!!!
