Pinktober starts today, and in our house it runs through Nov. 6 -- the day we finish walking in the DFW Breast Cancer 3-Day.
Pinktober is By Far my favorite month of the year. Every day, you'll find me wearing pink. Today, I'm kicking it off with my Lora's Prayer Warriors shirt. If you'll remember, Lora's battle with breast cancer ended last spring -- leaving behind an adoring spouse and two precious children.
Let me be very clear -- There is nothing cute, fun or fuzzy about breast cancer. It sucks. It's not a disease to be wrapped up in a pink cotton candy package.
It's ugly and it's mean and the thought of it landing on people I love is like a fist in the gut.
There is nothing fluffy about losing your Mom at 61. Nothing cute about watching your kids grow up without their Granny.
BUT.... I have chosen to OWN Pinktober. I fully recognize that THIS is the month when I can accomplish more for this cause than in any other. THIS is the month when people EVERYWHERE open up their checkbooks and GIVE. THIS is the month when I can make the most difference in this fight.
When you see me in my pink this month, you should know I look forward to the day we find a CURE. THAT will be the day I happily shop for a new wardrobe without a spot of pink.
Until then, when you see me in pink, know that I'm going to ask you to open up your checkbook and make a difference -- especially if you're Pink, too. Let's be Pink with a Purpose and find a CURE once and for all!!!
